Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? ( approx. 400 words)
For my media studies coursework I have chosen the brief to make a music video. I intend to make my alternative music video and interactive website with hyperlinks to target my younger 16-25 year old audience, mainly middle and up market (ABC1). My music video will also be targeted to a demographic of people who are engaged and interested in art and film and appreciate music and film as an art form and this will be seen through the stylistic choices and intertextual film references that I intend to make in my music video which will appeal to my audience.
My music video will be to the song 'Know Who You Are at Every Age' by the alternative band, Cocteau Twins, and my main artist will be a young girl, this will engage with my target audience and will allow them to connect with the music video and the artist as my artist herself fits into my target demographic (younger people). My music video and interactive website will encourage engagement between the audience and the artist too, I plan to include audio - visual elements onto my website, (a behind - the scene music video) as well as lots of opportunities to interact with the artist, where my audience can engage as active participants not just passive consumers.
I intend to represent my artist as a very talented and skilled performer and vocalist as well as an aspirational figure who appreciates all art forms and my music video will also be targeted to an audience who share this feeling.
My representation of my artist will also be non - stereotypical and will challenge stereotypes surrounding gender, age and sexuality. I will represent my artist as free and not conforming to typical gender stereotypes, such as women not being accepted in the alternative music sphere - a sphere which is typically male dominated and my music video will reflect this, as well as this the fear that many younger women feel of being judged and being self - conscious which I want to abolish. I will also focus on age as a part of my representation as my audience is so young, I will represent young people as fun and artistic and having an admiration for the arts in general which my 16-25 year old ABC1 audience should relate to and feel gratified by.
I intend to use technical codes within my music video, also, to encode messaging and representation. I plan to represent my artist as a skilled and talented vocalist and performer - making the audience look up to her and be engaged and interested in her and her work. I plan to represent my artist this way by using media language and technical codes to do so - using a variety of different camera angles and shots in my music video which I will carefully plan and orchestrate to encode my messaging. As well as this I will thoughtfully use mise en scene and appropriate use of lighting which will help me encode my messaging of my music video - which will be to present my artist as skilled, talented and showing a love for art and film and music specifically as an art form. As well as this on my website I intend to use appropriate typography, graphics, colour and iconography to better encode my messaging and engage the audience further.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
To meet the digital convergence website requirements, I intend to make my media project as cohesive as possible. I will use digital convergence on my website which will feature hyperlinks and a myriad of interactive elements on it. Such as an extra page for merchandising for the artist which my audience can interact with. I will also include audio - visual elements on my website which will link to my music video and make reference to it which is another example of convergence, I plan to make my audio - visual element to be a 'making of' video and a 'behind the scenes' of my music video. My website will also feature a gallery, with an area to watch the music video itself. My hyperlink will also be cohesive with my music video and website and I will include the appropriate graphics, logos, symbols and typography to represent my artist, which will all link together as well as a fitting colour scheme that I will use throughout my project.
